The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon after their semi-final loss to Egypt
What a nail-biter it was! They came so close but their hopes were dashed by Egypt in penalties shoot out at the semi-finals of the 2021 Cup of African Nations in Cameroon. Devastated Cameroonian fans were hoping to see their beloved Indomitable lions lift the converted continental trophy at home. But after a scoreless 120 minutes, it came to penalties where they lost.

The loss was so painful such that Samuel Eto’o, former football superstar and new President of the Cameroon Football Federation – FECAFOOT could be seen consoling the players.
However, Cameroon finished in third place after rallying from 0-3 to beat Burkina Faso 5-3 in penalty kicks in another nail-biter.

Cameroon has won the African Nations Cup 5 times – 1984, 1988, 2000, 2002, and 2017. Cameroon has appeared in the AFCON 20 times and the first was in 1970 in Sudan.
Egypt has seven wins, the most in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations. The Africa Cup of Nations was first held in February 1957 in Khartoum, Sudan.
The Indomitable Lions now look forward to the World cup qualifying matches in March.
